Hello! My name is Adam Solomon and I will be the new music director at QISS for this school year. I was born in Philadelphia, PA, USA, a wonderful city, rich in culture and it is there that I fell in love with music. As a child and teenager, I was a percussionist with the Central High School Symphony Orchestra, All City Philadelphia Orchestra and Concert Band, and the internationally renknown Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, and played under the direction of the late Maestro Joseph Primavera. I have studied privately with professional percussionists of the Chicago Symphony (Cynthia Yeh), Pennsylvania Ballet and Opera Companies (Susan Jones), and Saturday Night Live Band (Valerie Naranjo).
It was through playing in instrumental ensembles that I had the opportunities to travel to other countries, playing music in Israel, Poland, Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic. I knew that I wanted to perform and teach music forever, so it was an easy decision to study music in college. I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Music from Temple University, in Philadelphia PA, and with a Master's of Music Education from Boston University.
From August 2008 to June 2015, I taught in Western Colorado, for three years as an elementary general music teacher, and for four years as a middle school instrumental music director and high school percussion director. I loved living in Colorado, and having memorable experiences with my students and staff.
I am very happy to be in Qingdao for this school year, and am looking forward to the musical adventures ahead!
