2016-17 School Year: Grades 2 and 3
Grades 2 and 3 have started the 2016-17 school year out with learning how to sing with an appropriate singing voice, how to use proper technique on a xylophone, and the vocabulary words, "drone, melody, harmony, and bass". We learned how to sing a marathon song called, "Oh In the Woods", and started reviewing our rhythmic standard notation. Finally, this week, we have been revisiting body percussion, "snap, clap, pat, and stomp" and learned a folk song called, "Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow". Through this folksong, we are covering all of the standards from singing to moving to rhythm to tempo to vocabulary. We are also learning how to be a listening audience while students are playing xylophones individually. We are also beginning to experience ensemble singing and playing, and communication techniques that go with playing together.
